Project partner: Institute of Technical Education
To instill interest in and groom a generation of manpower and talent for the green sector, Singapore's Institute of Technical Education (ITE) embeds environmental and climate change aspects in its curriculum across all three ITE colleges. Part of this effort seeks to develop ITE's 28,000 youth (aged 17 to 20) in environmental leadership, empowering them with the skills to guide others in conservation and sustainable practices.
About 90 students take part each year in a workshop on climate change and biodiversity, working with other ITE students on environmental projects for Green Innovation. 40 students are then selected to go for a local 2D1N Environmental Leadership Camp. This is followed by a further shortlisted 30 going for a 4D3N overseas Environmental Leadership Camp.
These students then come back to lead their respective colleges' Green Ambassadors, one of ITE's six leadership co-curricular groups, in engaging their school and public communities on environmental issues.
Key outputs and outcomes include:
40 students complete one 2D1N Environmental Leadership Camp (local); and
30 students complete one 4D3N Environmental Leadership Camp (overseas.
