Five conservation projects focused on ecosystem restoration and wildlife protection have been awarded funding under the PPCF Conservation Grant 2025.
Ecosystem Restoration Projects
Community-based Sustainable Peatland Management Programme

Indonesia’s degraded peatlands pose major risks for carbon emissions, and transboundary haze across Southeast Asia. PM.Haze partners with local NGOs and communities to restore peatlands through rewetting and revegetation, while empowering residents with sustainable livelihoods. This dual approach reduces fire risk, supports biodiversity, and offers a scalable model for community-led conservation.

Sustainable Agriculture Promotion in Peatland Areas to Prevent Palm Oil Expansion

This project will restore degraded peatlands in Bengkalis, Indonesia through rewetting, native tree planting, fire prevention, and agroforestry with Liberica coffee. It will train 50 farmers in zero-burning and sustainable land management practices, support a community enterprise, and enhance biodiversity, climate resilience, and livelihoods across 80 hectares of peatland.

Women empowerment on mangrove conservation and restoration in East Java-Indonesia: transformative resilience to the impacts of sea-level rise

This project aims to empower coastal communities, especially women, to restore and conserve mangroves in East Java, enhancing both climate resilience and local livelihoods. Key activities include awareness programs, technical training, and support for mangrove-based microenterprises. The project targets the conservation of 1,200 ha of mangroves, restoration of 10 ha, and the strengthening of community-based climate adaptation.

Wildlife Conservation Projects
Implementation of conservation measures and assess of population trend for the Bawean deer (Axis kuhlii) and Bawean Warty pig (Sus blouchi)

This project aims to protect the endemic Bawean deer and Bawean warty pig by assessing population trends through GPS and camera traps, reducing human-wildlife conflict via community outreach, and implementing on-site conservation actions to prevent poaching, dog predation, and support recolonization of protected habitats on Bawean Island.

In situ population monitoring for One Plan conservation of the endangered Javan warty pig

This project monitors the Endangered Javan Warty Pig in West Java through camera trap surveys and data analysis. Led by Chester Zoo and partners, it will update population maps, assess habitat, and develop a conservation strategy, strengthening local capacity and informing future protection efforts.
